Slides and Discussion of his Work
Monday, February 10, 2003, at 7 p.m.

Book Club of California hours: Monday, 10-7; Tuesday-Friday, 10-5

Trained at the famous and respected trade and custom bindery of Sangorski
and Sutliffe of London, Lloyd has been restoring and binding antiquarian
books for collectors, dealers, and private libraries for over 20 years, in
the United Kingdom, the USA and far East His studio and bindery are in
Powys, in the Marches of Wales.

His specialty training and knowledge of books and their historical
structures and materials, enables him to bind and restore antiquarian books
to exactly the style of their original period and country of origin. This
historical approach emphasizes the saving of as much as possible of the
original binding that is feasible. New leathers are toned to exactly match
existing styles and colors. The finishing touches of title and ornament
are all recreated from Lloyd's extensive collection of 18th, 19th and 20th
century finishing tools, patterns and period papers.
