There is a style of bookbinding designed for large books which will
be used often. Stationary binding; sometimes called 'spring back.'

This style is described in a number of obscure titles. Probably
the easiest to find in a good library is Alex J. Vaughan's book,
_Modern Bookbinding_

You can find examples of this style of binding in county offices
all over the country.
