You could easily line (support) the leather in the areas of the cover boards
with paper or cardstock. This would control those areas to simplify the
process. Wheat paste should be used, just as one would use for covering in leather.
It would seem that vegetable tanned leather would be the only leather that
would work, especially if the traditional technique is used.
