Re: [BKARTS] Subject: Book arts in Budapest

In Budapest, there isn't a whole lot: the National Library in the Var (the
Castle) has some artist books and often beautiful book exhibitions.
There are quite a few artists making artist books, but the one Society is
hard to connect to and anyway, it's August, and most people are out of the city.
At the Museum of Applied Arts, there's a section where they show how
different crafts are made and there is a small binding & paper area...that museum has
some fabulous material -- books & paper -- but difficult to access the
collection. Its a beautiful Secession buildling and a worth visiting.
If you have time to go out to Szekesfehervar -- the Baroque capital of
Hungary and only 50 km from Budapest, the St. Stephan museum has a permanent artist
book collection and irregular International Bienniales of Artist Books (the
next one will be in 2005).
It is a fabulous city, though -- so enjoy!!!!

Hungary for many years now)
