re: leather.
There are different types of leather one of which is chrome tanned.  Chromium is a toxic heavy metal....
below is the osha site that explains the problems with
each of the heavy metals.

Chrome tanned leathers are distiguished typically by their
very dense consistancy.
This is at least a potential hazard for you and your co workers since the dust will tend to get everywhere and even with a respirator it will be on your hair, clothes and shoes.
Chromium is implicated in lung cancer.
Not all leathers are so dangerous.  You might ask the suppliers if they have the Material Safety Data Sheets on the leathers that you buy.  By law they must provide them.
