TREADWELL, NY -- The Word and Image Gallery at Bright Hill Center
in Treadwell will present "Exquisite Edge: Artist's Books and Paintings"
by Tara Bryan of Flatrock, Newfoundland, Canada, from October 5-31.
There will be an opening reception on Sunday, October 5, from 3 -5
p.m., at the gallery, during which Ms. Bryan will speak about her work,
which focuses, in this exhibit, on the Newfoundland landscape. The
public is invited to this free event; the Center is located at 94 Church
Street, one block north of Del. Co. Rte 14 (Barlow's General Store).
The gallery hours during October are Tuesday through Saturday, noon
- 5 p.m.
        Tara Bryan, a native of Texas, received her Bachelor of Music
in Theory and Composition from the University of New Mexico and her
MFA from the Unviersity of Wisconsin.She moved to Newfoundland in
1995, and she is an art instructor, department of Continuing Education,
Memorial University of Newfoundland. Her artist's books and paintings
have been exhibited throughout North America, in solo shows and
juried exhibitions, for many years, most recently at the Interchurch
Center in New York City. Her work is in private collections in North
America and Europe; and in the collections of the Provincial
Government of Newfoundland, Harvard University Library, MA; The
Museum of the University of central Oklahoma, and other public
collections. She has been awarded grants from the Canada Council ofr
the Arts Millennium Fund, the Procurement Program of the Province of
Newfoundland and Labrador; and  Dewar's Young Artist Recognition
Program (NY).
        Ms. Bryan's paintings are explorations of what she sees, these
landscapes presented in vertical format;  and her book works allow her
to pursue her "love of problem-solving, combining images and words in
intimate, sensuous objects which integrate concept, materials, and
        {SEQ CHAPTER \h \r 1}Word Thursdays/ Bright Hill Press's 2003 programs are made
