[BKARTS] Paste Paper Workshop in NYC with Claire Maziarczyk



Creating Paste Papers in Traditional Patterns and
Colors
with Claire Maziarczyk
November 14 and 15, 2003, Friday and Saturday, 9:00
a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
New York Academy of Medicine

The New York Chapter of the Guild of Book Workers is
pleased to announce a two-day workshop with noted
paste paper maker Claire Maziarczyk. This workshop
will focus on duplicating a variety of patterns and
colors found on historical paste papers. Claire will
demonstrate, discuss and guide participants through
color matching, tool manipulation and application
techniques in order to achieve the desired effects.
Each participant will create at least eight 12.5 x 19?
paste papers. Participants wishing to re-create a
specific design are encouraged to send a sample or
color photocopy of the paper to Claire for possible
inclusion into the workshop. Samples or color
photocopies may also be brought to the workshop for
discussion and possible re-creation.

Samples and/or copies can be sent to Claire Maziarczyk
at 882 Stark Avenue, Niskayuna, NY 12309 and must be
mailed well in advance of the workshop.

Space is limited to 11 participants.

Claire Maziarczyk has been making her line of
Pastepaper Patterns since 1982. Currently she makes
over one hundred standard patterns as well as over
fifty custom patterns for various clients. Claire?s
work may be viewed at www.pastepaperpatterns.com.

Workshop fees: Members: $145.00
               Non-members: $175.00
Materials fee: $20.00 (includes papers, paste and
colorants).
Note on supplies: Participants are requested to bring
an assortment of paste brushes to gain familiarity
with the potential of their own collection of brushes.
Additional papers with which to experiment may also be
brought to the workshop. Additionally it should be
noted that the workshop will be messy and participants
are advised to dress accordingly.

Location: The workshop will be held at the
Preservation Laboratory of The New York Academy of
Medicine which is located at 1216 Fifth Avenue at the
corner of East 103rd Street in Manhattan.
