[BKARTS] Artist-Book workshop on Skopelos Island, Greece

Dear Colleague:

I am writing to inform you of an exciting workshop offered this summer at
the Skopelos Arts Foundation (http://www.skopart.org/Index.html) on the
beautiful island of Skopelos, Greece. In this two-week workshop, traditional
book-arts techniques and drawing will serve as a creative springboard for
developing artist's books that preserve and showcase text, imagery, and
sacred objects surrounding the theme of travel and home. Participants will
learn basic monoprint techniques and experimental drawing while creating
several different hand-made books. The bookforms taught include Japanese
stab binding, exposed spine coptic sewing, and case binding including
hand-sewn headbands.

Lauren Garber and April Flanders will teach the workshop, in its second
year. Lauren Garber, Assistant Professor of Drawing at the University of
Florida, has taught courses in a wide variety of media including
installation, photography, 3-D design, drawing and graphic design. April
Flanders, Secretary of the Southern Graphics Council, has more than ten
years experience with printmaking and book arts and has taught courses in a
wide variety of media at the University of Florida, Cortona, Italy and
Skopelos, Greece.

This workshop is open to students of any level and the cost of the program
includes three credit hours from the University of Florida. Graduate
students are welcome to join the class as is, or to propose a separate
project to pursue their research in painting, drawing, collograph,
monoprinting, or book-arts. Interested parties do not need to be enrolled as
degree seeking students in order to participate.

The program cost is $1,726 and includes instruction, studio facilities,
three hours college credit, most supplies, shared housing on Skopelos
island, breakfast each day and the opening and closing Greek banquets. In
order to apply, students must contact the University of Florida
International Center at (352) 392-5323.

The workshop is limited to fifteen students and it is filling up fast.
Please share this information with anyone who may be interested in joining
