Re: [BKARTS] BookFest 2004

Are there any artists on this list who have previously participated in the
Book Fest announced yesterday? I'm curious how successful the show is. How
many people usually attend the event? How many artists are there? Are sales
strong enough to justify a trip from out of state?

Thanks,

Kevin Thomas

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Book Fest 2004
Bringing artists and collectors together

BookFest 2004, New York City's international celebration of the book arts,
will take place at the YWCA at 53rd Street and Lexington Avenue on Friday,
April 2, 2004 from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, April 3, from 10 a.m. to 5
p.m. Dozens of book artists will be presenting their handcrafted limited
edition and unique books for sale.

In recent years the book arts has experienced an explosion of inventive
structures and new approaches to storytelling. BookFest 2004 will showcase
pop-up, movable, tunnel, carousel, flexagon, flag, petal, concertina, as
well as conventional codex books. Collectors and book curious visitors
will
find volumes crafted from unusual materials and utilizing a wide variety of
printing techniques.

Book artists will be arriving from numerous studios across the United
States
and abroad. "The quirky nature of my books has always found an
appreciative
audience in New York," says Emily Martin of Naughty Dog Press (Iowa City)
who will be showing her books filled with wicked humor and intricate folds.

BookFest 2004 is organized by New York bookbinder Carolyn Chadwick and Ed
Hutchins from Editions, a studio for producing artist book multiples in
Mount Vernon, New York. According to Hutchins, "New York City is the
cultural center of the United States and has the largest concentration of
arts appreciating connoisseurs anywhere. This is a golden moment for
collectors to discover innovative books and to meet the renowned artists
who
create these distinctive works."
