[BKARTS] Paperworks Gocco Workshop Taught by Shu Ju Wang

Paperworks, the Sonoran Collection of Paper and Book Artists (www.paperworks.info), is sponsoring a workshop on Gocco printing to be taught by artist Shu-Ju Wang of Portland, Oregon. The Gocco workshop will be held March 26-27, 2004, in Tucson, Arizona.

Although the Gocco was originally created as a child's toy, artist have discovered that this little plastic powder-blue toy is another useful tool to create artist's books and fine prints. This two-day workshop will introduce participants to silkscreen printing with the Gocco by starting with a single-screen print, and then going on to more complex, multiple-screen prints by combining and layering images and/or text. Full color printing (CMYK) will be discussed as one of the printing options. Each participant will create an editioned print for the class exchange portfolio.

The workshop will focus on printing on paper, but participants are encourage to scour their basements and garages for potential printing surfaces - wood, textiles, and metal are all excellent materials for the Gocco, as are tortillas and many flat or semi-flat surfaces which are also fair game for experiments.

Cost: $125 for Paperworks members, includes Gocco supplies. $155 for non-members. The workshop will have a maximum of 20 participants and will be held in Tucson. Check out Shu Ju's website at www.fingerstothebone.com
