the Washington University School of Art Summer Study Abroad Program Presents
The Collection, the Souvenir and the Book

A month-long course in Florence, Italy focusing on the art of gathering,
collecting, organizing and assembling. What better way to combine your love
of travel, visiting unusual and extraordinary collections (including
museums, libraries, and flea markets) and making books than spending the
month of June with two women who know and love the ins and outs of Florence?

Jana Harper teaches in the Nancy Kranzberg Illustrated Book Studio at
Washington University. She is a graduate of Arizona State University¹s
Printmaking and Book Arts Program. She has traveled extensively throughout
Italy and has taught previously for the University of Georgia in Cortona,
Italy and co-taught a course with Ken Botnick in Wash U¹s summer program in
Florence. Jana is a printmaker, bookmaker, and general Italophile.

Regan Wheat is an artist who uses paper construction (much like a pop-up
book) to explore the space between sculpture and drawing. A graduate of the
Cranbrook Institute of Art, she teaches in the CORE program at Washington
University. Regan lived in Italy for three years, teaching at the Lorenzo de
Medici Cultural Art Institute.
