Loganberry Books Hosts Edible Books Contest

A Call for Entires!

Saturday, April 3rd, 2004

Loganberry Books, 13015 Larchmere Boulevard in Shaker Heights, will host the Cleveland exhibition of the Fifth International Edible Book Festival on Saturday, April 3rd, 2004. From 1 to 4 pm booklovers, bookbinders, cooks, and craftspeople of all ages are invited to view the Edible Book entries, cast their votes, and eat the edible books.

The Fifth International Edible Book Festival will occur throughout the world on any day from April 1 to April 5. This is Cleveland's first participation in the event. See the Books2Eat website at http://colophon.com/ediblebooks/ for more information on the International participants and for a photo gallery of tasty morsels.

Edible Book entries welcomed! All entries must be entirely edible and have something to do with books. There is no fee for contest participants, and each participant will be given a special handcrafted miniature book pin by Strong Bindery. Set-up in Loganberry Annex Gallery will begin at 11:00 am.

What is an Edible Book? Exactly that: an artists' book that is edible, made out of
food rather than paper and board. Choose your favorite food (chocolate, cheese, carrots?) and create a book (novel, picture book, biography?). Be creative, and have fun.

The edible books will be exhibited, judged, and consumed. Popular votes will determine the Most Creative, Most Bookish, and Most Delicious entries. Prizes will include thematically chosen books from Loganberry Books. Entries already include professional bookbinders, local chefs, electricians, bookworms, and young artists. People of all ages are invited to participate and to register their entry with Loganberry Books (216-795-9800 or harriett@xxxxxxxxx) by Saturday, March 27th .

There will be a special press-only opportunity to photograph the books and talk to artist/chefs at 12:00 noon. The exhibition opens to the public for viewing and voting at 1:00 pm, awards presented at 3:00 pm and eating commences at 3:15 pm. Tickets for voting/eating participants will be $2, payable at the door.

Cleveland's Edible Book Festival is co-sponsored by Loganberry Books and Strong Bindery, both newly located at 13015 Larchmere Boulevard in Shaker Heights. Regular shop hours are Monday - Saturday, 10 am to 6 pm. Other hours by chance and appointment. Call Harriett Logan at 216-795-9800, or visit the website at http://www.loganberrybooks.com for more information. And please come eat some books with us!
