Richard,

The printer didn't use any sizing. He had nothing whatever to do with the
cover material.  The sizing was put into the cloth by the mill that manufactured
the cloth.  They used starch, usually wheat starch. But, it really doesn't
matter which. It was mostly a matter of price, since they were both readily
available.
