[BKARTS] Book Arts Class at Cooper Union in New York City

This class was my "real" introduction to bookmaking. Esther is a
force of nature, and great fun in class. In addition to learning
some great book forms, she generally has invited guests..other New
York bookmakers.. who show their works and talk about what they do.
Great value and great fun.

Artists' Books
Esther K Smith

For artists and designers who want to make books. Explore non-
adhesive book structures from Eastern and Western traditions - books
that need almost no glue and no special equipment. Techniques include
longstitch, coptic, pamphlet and stab stitching plus an array of
tricky paper forms: flexagons, magic wallets, simple pop-ups, origami-
based forms, woven pockets, animations and concertina-based
flip/flaps. Make fast models, develop finished pieces, and embellish
with collage, drawing, rubber-stamps, even text. Publish a quick
edition on two. Discuss exhibition, publication, distribution.
Experienced students and beginners welcome. Guest artists and field
