You are correct +-   improvements such as you mention would be a renewal of
progress. a movement to the inferior is regression. Bookbinding in this modern
era, has regressed, even though time has progressed. I will give you the oft
used term "growing progressively worse."  That statement seems to be basically
contradictory. How can deterioration be progress?
