Laura,

Krylon acrylic spray is not acidic. Leather is somewhat acidic. Would you
hesitate to use it for that reason? How about wheat starch paste? Beside that, it
would take literally centuries for any acid that could possibly be present in
a bookcloth to migrate through the layer of adhesive that bonds it to the
cover board; then through the cover board, another layer of adhesive and the
lining paper.
