A Conference Marking the One Hundredth Anniversary of the Founding of
the Bibliographical Society of America at the Louisiana Purchase
Exposition in St. Louis on October 18, 1904

Washington University, St. Louis

Including papers on Western printing, publishing, and book distribution,
the book culture of early St. Louis, a river boat cruise, and remarks on
the history and future of The Bibliographical Society of America
occasioned by its one hundredth anniversary. A joint meeting of The
Bibliographical Society of America and the St. Louis Rare Book
Librarians Group, co-sponsored by the St. Louis Mercantile Library at
the University of Missouri-St. Louis and Washington University Libraries
Department of Special Collections.


Friday-Saturday, October 15-16, 2004
Saint Louis University, St. Louis

The conference will offer a variety of papers focusing on the transition
from script to print in late medieval manuscripts and early printing,
with a session sponsored by The Bibliographical Society of America.
Guest speaker: Paul Needham (Scheide Librarian, Princeton University),
"Printing Comes to Europe, 1450-1475." The Saint Louis Conference on
Manuscript Studies is sponsored by the Vatican Film Library at Saint
Louis University and Manuscripta: A Journal for Manuscript Research.

*Participants of Roughing It are invited to attend the Saint Louis
Conference on Manuscript Studies Guest Lecture on Friday, October 15,
4pm, with following reception, and the Saint Louis Art Museum reception,
Saturday, October 16, 6pm-8pm. Participants of both Roughing It and the
Saint Louis Conference on Manuscript Studies will enjoy a 20% discount
on cross registration for both conferences.*
