- TREADWELL, NY --- Bright Hill Center's Word & Image Gallery, announces
the opening  reception and exhibit of  the Third Bright Hill North
American Juried Book Arts Exhibit, featuring artists' books from
throughout the United States. The opening reception will take place on
Sunday, October 3, from 3 - 5 p.m. at the Gallery; the exhibit will remain
there through October 30. Gallery hours are Tuesdays through Fridays, 10
a.m. - 4 p.m. he will be  present Saturday's opening to receive her cash
award. The Center is located at 94 Church Street, Treadwell, one block
north of Barlow's General Store.
        Book artists and educators Nancy Callahan of Oneonta, NY and Louise
Neaderland of Accord and Brooklyn, NY selected the 40 books by 26
artists; their choice for Best of Show was "Icarus," an accordion book by
Elsi Vassdal Ellis, Bellingham, WA; Ms. Ellis will receive $200. Tied for
Second place and $100 each were "Cosmology of Constraint" by Susan
Hensel, Minnieapolis, MN and "The Artist's Own Celestial Charts. . ." by
Nora McGillivray, Shoreview, MN.
        The books in this year's exhibit were created by the following
artists/bookmakers: Susan Angebranndt, San Mateo, CA; A C Berkheiser,
Greensboro, NC; Sally Canzoneri, Washington, DC; Cristina de Almeida,
Bellingham, WA; Elsi Vassdal Ellis, Bellingham, WA; Karen Hanmer,
Glenview, IL; Susan Hensel, Minneapolis, MN; Shireen Holman, Montgomery
Village, MD; Diane Jacobs, Portland, OR; Edwin Jager, Oshkosh, WI; Julia
Leonard, Iowa City, OA; Mary Ellen Long, Durango, CO; Jone Small
Manoogian, Palo Alto, CA; Nora McGillivray, Shoreview, MN; Rachel Melis,
Manhattan, KS; Stephanie Nace, Columbia, SC; Sarah Nicholls, Brooklyn,
NY; Bonnie Thompson Norman, Seattle, WA; Lisa Olson, Belmont, MA; Susan
Porteus, Tempe, AZ; Cara Schlesinger, Brooklyn, NY; Ellen Sheffield,
Gambier, OH; Katherine Venturelli, Fiddletown, CA; Beata Wehr, Tucson,
AZ; and Jessica White, Memphis, TN; Kris Wiedenheft, Renssalaer, NY.
