JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: Head Rare and Antiquarian Book Department

Oak Knoll, a rare and antiquarian book firm and a scholarly publisher,
located in historic New Castle, Delaware seeks to fill the full-time
position of Head of the Rare and Antiquarian Book Department. The successful
candidate will coordinate all aspects of the department, from helping to
purchase books, to cataloguing books, to selling books. Experience in the
book trade is preferred.

Cataloguing responsibilities include writing descriptions for rare and
antiquarian books. These entries would be published on the internet and in a
monthly catalogue with a large international readership. Books could include
items from 1500 to the present in all western European languages. Books are
described as physical artifacts as well as for their intellectual
properties. Some foreign language skills, and experience with
bibliographical reference tools (printed and electronic) are preferred. The
position would also be responsible for managing student cataloguing staff
during the summer months.

Marketing responsibilities include producing antiquarian catalogues
(compiling, editing, printing, and mailing), traveling to bookfairs, working
with customers, answering questions, as well as planning and executing
marketing campaigns around thematically consistent groups of books to
various internal and external lists. The candidate will also be responsible
for composing advertising copy, and creating and overseeing the distribution
of daily and weekly marketing campaigns. The successful candidate will be
able to work independently and will have many creative ideas.

Oak Knoll Books was founded in 1976 by Bob Fleck, a chemical engineer by
training, who let his hobby get the best of him. Oak Knoll Press, the second
part of the business, was established in 1978 as a logical extension of Oak
Knoll Books. Today, Oak Knoll Books is a thriving company with 10 employees
and an inventory of about 20,000 titles. Our main specialties continue to be
books about book collecting, book selling, bibliography, libraries,
publishing, private press printing, fine printing, bookbinding, book design,
book illustration, calligraphy, graphic arts, marbling, papermaking,
printing, typography and type specimens plus books about the history of
these fields.

Oak Knoll is a small company situated on the main street of historic New
Castle, Delaware, a town that was originally founded in 1651. New Castle is
conveniently situated midway between New York and Washington and is easily
accessible via Amtrak. We are 15-30 minutes from Newark, Delaware and about
50 minutes from Philadelphia.
