There's nothing wrong with using fake raised bands in this situation,in
my opinion. You can do it either with tight backs or hollow backs,
depending on the binding style of the book you're matching and any
openability considerations. You can use sewing cord or strips of
full-thickness leather for the false bands, again to harmonize with the
book that already has raised bands.
