Re: [BKARTS] [PPLetterpress] Fun in printing

Much depends on the definition of "fun". 75 years ago printers
(compositors) had a 5 year apprenticeship. A separate 5 years was required
for pressmen.

However looking at samples of fine printing, from ephemera to
bookmaking, one must get the notion that the work done by printers and
pressman was done with pride and satisfaction. Some would call this "fun".
However the samples one sees which do not show craftsmanship are abundant
and one must consider this as one more phase in the history of letterpress,
which has gone through so many.
