[BKARTS] Exhibition announcement

The Book Arts Program and Special Collections at the J. Willard Marriott
Library, University of Utah is pleased to announce the following

The Design Bindings of Scott Kellar
January 14th through March 11th

In a centuries' long tradition of superlative craft bookbinding, design
binding is the latest expression of painstaking craftsmanship and artful
expression. The term 'design binding' is relatively recent, adopted to
describe the influence of modern art and design on fine bookbinding. A
marriage of traditional materials and structure with non-traditional
materials and innovative aesthetics, design binding enhances the
reader's engagement with a book through texture and thoughtful yet
provocative detail. Scott Kellar lives and works in Chicago as a private
book conservator. His fascination with design binding began nearly
thirty years ago, soon after he began his career. A member of the Guild
of Bookworkers, his design bindings have been exhibited nationally and
internationally. Exhibitions are free and open to the public.
Place: Special Collections Gallery, Marriott Library, 5th floor
Gallery Hours: Monday through Thursday, 8:00 - 8:00; Friday, 8:00 -
