[BKARTS] Fore-Edge Painting Lecture and Workshop

** Low Priority **

The Johns Hopkins University Sheridan Libraries are pleased to sponsor,
The Curious Art of Fore-Edge Painting, presented by Martin Frost at the
Milton S. Eisenhower Library in Baltimore, Maryland. Designed to appeal
to both painters and book workers (conservators, binders, book artists
and crafts people) of all levels, the program will include an
illustrated lecture (describing the genesis and progress of this little
known art form and featuring painted books from the artist's own
collection) and a one-day hands-on workshop (to teach the techniques of
English water coloring onto book-edges). They are intended to prime
students in the technique of painting a book-edge and the student can
expect to take home a gilded-book with a hidden edge-decoration. About
the Instructor:Over the last 35 years the British book artist Martin
Frost has painted over 3,000 book-edges including many examples of the
more unusual two-way, split and all-edge paintings. His work is to be
found in institutions, national and private collections worldwide.
Frost teaches the art in England and has taught in Northern California.
