[BKARTS] Leather Paring Knives

I need to pare some leather but have only one tool - the inexpensive "skife knife" that uses a single-edge razor blade.  Are there any generally-recognized advantages and disadvantges to the French, Swiss and English paring knives like those I see in the Talas catalogue?
