[BKARTS] dying alum tawed goatskin


I have a couple of skins, the less expensive alum tawed goatskins from
Talas. Nice even and bright white. A little too bright for my
customer's two desk blotters! I need to take the edge of the white, get
them a little creamier.

I have never dyed leather before and I'm concerned about getting even
results. The one bit of guidance I find in my references is "if the
leather is evenly moist beforehand the dye will take better." Once can
only assume this refers to water based dyes. The advice tallies with my

- Tips from the bench on achieving even color are most welcome.
- Any opinions about dying the whole skin vs dying just the pieces for
my project welcome.
