(Please excuse cross-posting.)

The American Printing History Association's New York Chapter is pleased to
announce that Irene Tichenor will speak on Theodore Low De Vinne at the
Grolier Club on June 14 at 6 p.m.

June 14, 2005 - 6 p.m.
Irene Tichenor
Typography & Commerce: the Work of the De Vinne Press

Join APHA's New York Chapter and the Grolier Club's Committee on Modern
Fine Printing for Irene Tichenor, De Vinne biographer and former president
of the American Printing History Association, who will speak about
America's foremost nineteenth century printer and printing historian,
Theodore Low De Vinne. His printing was seen in millions of American homes
in the Century Magazine. Through his writings, practices and personal
networks, De Vinne educated many Americans, both printer and lay, about
printing practice and history. He authored numerous books on the practice
of typography and printing, and he published the first modern reprint of
the seminal printers' manual, Joseph Moxon's Mechanick Exercises, in 1896.
He was a moving spirit behind professional organizations such as the United
Typothetae of American (a forerunner of the Printing Industry of America)
and social bibliophile organizations like the Grolier Club of New York.
There will be a special display of De Vinne artifacts that evening. Join us
for a extraordinary De Vinne evening at the Grolier Club (of which he was a
founding member). Free and open to the public.

The Grolier Club is located at 47 East 60th Street, New York City between
Park and Madison Avenue.
