There is a reason that beer/wine was sometimes used to soak
tannic acid out of oak galls when making iron gall ink.
Glycerine. The combination of glycerine and alcohol would
extract more tannic acid from the galls than water alone.
So, what you may have here is water color with extra glycerine.
Just a thought.
