Re: [BKARTS] San Francisco book artists

The Hand Bookbinders of California 35th Annual Membership Exhibition is at
University of California, San Francisco (the medical school) and directions,
etc. are attached.

Be sure to hit the San Francisco Public Library, Main Branch, 100 Larkin
Street. There is presently a calligraphy and hand-lettered book exhibit on
the 6th floor. Visit Special Collections (adjacent to the exhibition space)
and introduce yourself. They may be able to point you to some other
displays of interest. There is usually an exhibit in the basement space,
near the snack bar (which, by the way has excellent food!) that is of
interest.

The San Francisco Center for the Book presently has an exhibit of printing
which is interesting.

Arion Press is one of the few remaining small presses, and one of very few
type foundries, and they have new digs in the Presidio. Tours are Thursday
afternoons and there is a fee of $7.00, I find on their website; consult for
more information.

Subject: San Francisco book artists

September 25-27th I will be in San Francisco playing the roll of
"charming spouse" as I accompany my husband on a business trip. (I
currently reside in the middle of no place, Oyhio.) My days are free to
explore. Other than power shopping at Sam Flax
are there any book artisits / studios / small press /binderies that
would be available for a visit and accessible via public
transportation? I'll buy lunch. I've already been to the SF Book
Center and there are no classes of interest the days I'll be in town.
Many thanks for the consideration.
