[BKARTS] Seattle Workshop

Photographic Artist Books
A two-day workshop with Laura Russell
September 24-25, 2005
Location: Art Books Press in Seattle

With the popularity of digital cameras and the high quality of ink jet printers these days, artists are looking for ways to incorporate photography into “artists books.” These limited-edition, handmade books are an ideal vehicle for using photographs to create either purely visual books or books that combine text and image to form a compelling narrative.

This workshop is designed for photographers or book artists who want to create one-of-a-kind or limited-edition artist books using their own digital or traditional photographs. We’ll talk about concepting, photo and text selection, imposition and computer design considerations as well as bookbinding and editioning techniques. All techniques discussed are suited for later use on a basic home desktop computer and ink jet printer setup.

Participants will create several blank models of artist book structures so that they can later create their own editions. No bookbinding experience necessary as we will cover the basic principles of book binding from how to fold a sheet of paper to binding a hard cover book. All materials and handouts provided.
Cost: $120 plus $25 material fee.

If you have any questions about the workshop you can email Laura at laura@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, or check her web site at www.laurarussell.net.

To register for the workshop contact Art Books Press. www.artbookspress.com or phone (206) 285-2665

Enjoy the rest of your summer!
