Conservation and the Book Arts:
Creative and innovative solutions for preserving library and archival
materials.
A lecture and workshop with Hedi Kyle

These events are sponsored by the The Brodsky Endowment for the Advancement
of Library Conservation

Lecture Date: 4 p.m., Friday, October 7. The lecture is free and open to
the public.
Workshop: October 8-9, 2005. Registration required.
Lecture & Workshop Venue: E.S. Bird Library, 6th Floor, Syracuse
University, Syracuse, NY

Workshop Description:

Books, manuscripts, and scrolls, for example, often confined to
inhospitable storage quarters, need protection. Housing them in suitable,
archival and yet attractive enclosures is a sensible solution.

Workshop participants will construct a sample set of folders, wrappers, and
slipcases, all nested in a corrugated clamshell box. Storage ideas for
scrolls will also be covered. Not a conservator? These structures can
easily be adapted for use by book artists.

Workshop: October 8 - 9, 2005
Hours: 10am - 5pm

Registration Fee: $125 + $25 for materials
Registration Deadline: September 16
Enrollment: 7(maximum)
