Re: [BKARTS] Alexandrian Library call

Dear friends and colleagues,

As its "General Counsel" I am delighted to draw your attention to the
second International Biennial on BookArt in Alexandria, Egypt, in
April, 2006. The theme of this biennial is "Alexandria: A Cosmopolitan
City". The Library of Alexandria hopes, with this theme, to attract
artists, printers, and writers who (also) work with/in the area of
Book-Printing-Art and warmly invite them to participate in this event!
In the attachments, you will find detailed information and forms in
English and Arabic.

Please also forward this invitation on to colleagues and other
interested parties.

Estimados amigos y colegas,
 quiero informarles sobre la 2a Bienal Internacional de BOOKART que se
celebrará en Alejandria, Egipto en abril del 2006.
El tema será "Alejandria, una cuidad cosmopolita". La Bibiotecta de
Alejandria quiere invitar a todos aquellos artistas, artistas del
BOOKART y autores que están interesados en los temas. Junto encontras
los respectivos documentos en inglés y en árabe.

Por favor, no duden en enviar esas informaciones a sus colegas e amigos

Call for Artists:

Bibliotheca Alexandrina announces the Second International Biennale for the
Artist's Book 2006. The exhibition will be held from 15 April to 25 May

The theme of the Biennale is: Alexandria: A Cosmopolitan City.


§        Works of International, Arab and Egyptian artists will be selected
for the event.

§        Artists and printmakers are invited to work with either auto-texts
or other texts of poetry, prose, essays or all possible fields of writing,
be it literary, scientific or documentary.

§        Necessary copyrights, permissions to print and/or reproduce the
texts used by artists should be included and printed clearly in all
submitted copies, whenever necessary, e.g. if or when an artist decides to
work with a previously published text that has a different owner.

§        A minimum of 10 (ten) printed pages is favorable for the uniformity
of the works exhibited.

§        All works must be reproducible whether in hand-printed format or
within limited edition guidelines, where one copy/edition/issue shall be
donated by the artist to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

§        The Biennale team of organizers urges participants to have all
works signed and numbered, and to specify the copy that will be gifted to
the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

§        Foe hand-printed works, techniques may include: wood-cut, wood
engraving, linoleum, intaglio, litho, serigraph (silk-screen).

§        Attached is the application form to be filled by all participants.
Information such as of techniques used, artists' statements,
printers'/editors' statements as well as other related texts that shed light
on the creation of the artwork are sought.

This will help the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Biennale management team prepare
necessary press releases, publications and critical texts.

§        For artists who use texts other than Arabic, English or French, a
supplementary translation in any of those languages is encouraged, to be
delivered separately in any electronic format, and not to include it as an
integral part of the artwork.

§        Participating artists will be allocated two pages in an original
catalogue to be displayed alongside the exhibition. One of the pages shall
consist of the artist's biography and a brief statement; the other page
shall bear the artist's original work. The biography and artist Statements
may be sent via email. Original works must be on an A3 sheet of paper and
sent to:
