Roycroft Campus Corporation presents a weekend workshop series that allows participants to work as artisans did 100 years ago in the original Roycroft Copper Shop on the Roycroft Campus.

East Aurora, NY - Books to be made on the Roycroft Campus once again!

The Roycroft Crafts community of Elbert Hubbard circa 1896-1915 produced astonishing amounts of hand crafted items that have become highly collectable and highly regarded. The Roycroft Campus Corporation presents a weekend workshop series which allows participants to work as artisans did 100 years ago.

The first weekend class will be on the Art of Bookmaking - Friday - Sunday Oct 14 - 16, 2005. This class organized by Richard Kegler of p22 font fame is one of many talented artists teaching the art and craft of book production.

Participants will work on components of one of three books throughout the weekend. Workshops include: Papermaking, paper decoration, hand set type, hand printing, printmaking, illumination, and various binding techniques. Each participant will take home new skills in the book arts as well as a copy of one of the three books.

Class size is limited to 12. The cost for the weekend is $250 including all materials, the Friday Night Cocktail Icebreaker, and lunch on Saturday Accommodations are limited, please inquire for options.

These will be the first Roycroft books to be made at the Campus in over 60 years!

The second weekend class is on Copper Repousse Metal in the Arts & Crafts Style October 21-23 with Roycorft Master artisan Frank Glapa.

Learn how to create and form copper sheets into a design in the repousse style. You will create beautiful and useful objects (book-ends, or a landscape scene panel or plate), for your home in the Arts & Crafts style. Students will start with a sheet of copper and shape it by using simple tools that haven't changed in millennia to beat, raise or sink the metal, and finish with a classic patina. 9:00 am to 5:00 pm each day. Level: beginner through intermediate. Tuition is $350 per student and $40 for materials (lunches are included)

Last but not least the series concludes with a Screen Printing workshop by Roycroft Master artisan Dorothy Markert - Nov 4-6 .
All materials will be provided so that each student can create and take home an edition of their own original prints as well as Dorothy's complete manual and a screen (16" x 20") complete with backingboard and hinges that they can use for future work. She will correspond with registered students so that they can work up their designs before the class. She will have books of copyright designs that they can use in class. $200 per student and $50 for materials - lunches are included.
