Introduction to Book Arts for Beginning thru Advanced Students
Tuesday Evenings Beginning January 31
In this course we will explore a variety of book structures (at least 10
different book structures) including a hand bound traditional case binding,
exposed spine binding, Japanese stab binding, accordion folds, altered books,
miniature books and unusual book structures. Each student working at their own
level will create one-of-a-kind interpretations of the structures taught
using color, papers, fabric, leather, suede and ephemera representing their own
voice. Students will leave the class with a small self generated collection
of handmade books and the foundation to create any book they choose.
These book forms can be inspirations for photo albums, prototypes for artists
’ books, portfolios, bindings of students own work and anything else
stimulated by the imagination.
