Application Deadline Extension: Feb. 15, 2006
2006 Ann Arbor Course Offering
March 20 - 24
Introduction to Leather Binding with Monique Lallier
In a case binding the cover is prepared separately from the textblock. This technique is an easy way to decorate the covers with materials of your choice (paper, cloth and leather with unusual shapes). It is less time consuming, uses less expensive material and is the foundation of bookbinding. Monique will teach a case binding that looks like a French technique binding when finished, as there will be no groove between the boards and the spine. It can be completed in cloth or leather, but during this week students will complete one cloth binding. Students will prepare the text block; complete the sewing, rounding and backing and edge decoration; prepare the boards, the covering and the lining between the turn-ins; and attach the cover to the textblock. Case bindings can be very attractive protections for books that will last for generations. No prerequisite is required.

Please contact the American Academy of Bookbinding at staff@xxxxxxxxx or 970-728-3886 for application and registrations procedures. More information is available on our website at http://www.ahhaa.org
