[BKARTS] Summer workshops on Cape Cod
There are some spaces still open- spread the word
TRURO CENTER FOR THE ARTS AT CASTLE HILL
Truro , Cape Cod, Massachusetts
Bookbinding:
July 17 - July 21
Mon - Fri, 9 - 12
5 Sessions, $300
This workshop opens with an overview and discussion of different
binding structures, anatomy of the book, and the materials and tools
that are fundamental to craft bookbinding. We'll discuss the basic
tool kit, the importance of paper grain, as well as folding paper and
preparing signatures for sewing. There will be a thorough, hands-on
approach to learning about bookbinding. Focusing on a traditional
sewn structure, the class will sew multiple signatures on linen tapes
and then build a cover for the text block. Students continue with
this structure, as repetition and practice are integral to learning
any new craft, and end up with two full-cloth, case-bound books.
Other book structures will be taught as time allows. A great starting
point for people curious about bookbinding.
From Block to Book: Linocut Prints for Artist's Books
July 24- July 28
Mon - Fri, 9 - 12
5 Sessions, $300
The direct printmaking process of hand printing from linoleum blocks
will be used to create a variety of colorful images in an adventurous
printmaking approach onto willing papers that then move into being a
visual book. Options will be presented that consider print needs and
peculiarities for the alternative presentation format of bookworks.
Simple structures will be developed and adapted, that can be pasted,
sewn or assembled in interesting ways. An important theme is
innovation within simplicity, figuring out materials for that
"workable" feeling, and using your own means of technology.
