Re: [BKARTS] Moving a press

Hi Sarah,
I moved a Charles Brand etching press from Nebraska to Illinois recently and found that I got the best price (and great service) through Small Business Transportation -www.freight101.com. They partner with various trucking companies to get you the best price for your shippment. I paid around $350 to have it shipped (it was palleted, though not crated, and weighs about 2000lbs.) Other shipping companies had quoted me $500 - $600. Trying to get your press into an almost-full shipment going your way is more economical than contracting a truck to just ship the press and nothing else. You might also want to look at www.uship.com. It's like eBay in that you list the item that you need to ship and how much you're willing to spend to have it shipped and truckers bid on shipping your item. I decided not to ship through uShip simply because I was getting a lot of flatbed truck bids and I was worried about inclement weather due to a winter shipment. You may be able to find a great shipper that way though. Definitely do your homework before making a final decision. In most cases, shippers will insist that your press be palleted and ideally you will want to have it crated, but it's not necessary. Mine showed up unscathed from the trip. Some shipping companies will crate it for you (for a cost), but I don't believe that was an option when I went through SBT. Good luck to you. If you have any questions about my experience, feel free to contact me off- list.

I have to move a press across the country. I was
wondering if anyone has recommendations for companies
that could do this. I'm aassuming companies that
specialize in moving machinery would be ideal.
thanks,
sarah
