Re: [BKARTS] FIFTH ANNUAL BRIGHT HILL PRESS NORTH AMERICAN JURIED

Dear Book Arts Friends,

Bright Hill Press will host its FIFTH Annual North American Juried Book Arts
Exhibition at Bright Hill Center's Word & Image Gallery, in New York's Catskill Mountain
Region, 94 Church Street, Treadwell, NY, from October 8 - 31, 2006. Submissions from all
countries in North America are welcome. The first four annual exhibits were noteworthy for
the innovative books submitted, and we look forward to another great exhibit!
This year's exhibit will be juried by Richard Minsky and Bertha Rogers.
In the 70s and 80s Richard made bindings that radicalized the field, moving the
craft to an art museum experience, later pioneering the use of computers and inkjet printing
in producing book art. He publishes fine editions and occasionally writes and illustrates
them. Minsky.com was the first book art website. In 1974 he started The Center for Book
Arts in New York, which became the model for similar centers elsewhere. Currently he is
producing a catalog of his collection of American Decorated Publishers' Bindings, 1872-
1929. He has curated many exhibitions, including the landmark Book Arts in the USA, which
traveled through Africa and Latin America as a Cultural Presentation of The United States of
America. His web site is http://www.richardminsky.com.
Bertha Rogers has read, lectured about, and taught writing and fine and applied
arts to children, adults, and teachers for 35 years. Her two- and three-dimensional art has
been shown in more than 200 juried and solo exhibitions throughout the US and abroad.
Her awards include fellowships to the MacDowell, Millay, Hedgebrook, Caldera, and
Hawthornden artists´ colonies, and a Ludwig Vogelstein grant for her interdisciplinary
exhibit and book, "Even the Hemlock: Poems, Reliquaries, & Illuminations." Her illustrated
letterpress translation of "Beowulf," the Anglo-Saxon epic, was published in 2000. She is the
founding executive director of Bright Hill Press (brighthillpress.org) Literary Center. Her web
site is http://www.bertharogers.com.
Entries may include traditionally-bound books, artists' books, sculptural bookworks,
hanging books, etc., that have been created in the period 2002-2006 and never exhibited at
Bright Hill Center. Awards include Best of Show (a cash prize of $200.) and Second
place (a cash prize of $100). In addition, each person whose work is juried into the exhibit
will receive a free copy of the 2006 "Book Arts at Bright Hill" catalog. Entries will be juried
from the actual books. Shipped submissions should be postmarked no later than August 17,
2006. FOR COMPLETE GUIDELINES AND REQUIRED ENTRY FORM sent as a PDF, e-
mail Bright Hill at wordthur@xxxxxxxxxxx, or send an SASE to BHP BOOK ARTS, POB 193,
Treadwell, NY 13846. Additional information about Bright Hill may be found at
