[BKARTS] Fall lectures at the Grolier Club

As part of its mission to foster wider appreciation of books and
prints, this season the Grolier Club will again be opening some of
its lectures and other events to the book-loving public.
With one exception, the events involve no charge. Unless otherwise
indicated below, non-Grolier Club members should rsvp Maev Brennan at

The roster of lectures planned for the Fall season is as follows:
* September 16: Panel Discussion on "Designer Bindings: What Are
They, and How Do I Get One?" Organizer and moderator Priscilla
Juvelis has teamed with collector Neale Albert to organize a
discussion on designer bindings involving binders, book artists, and
collectors, many of whom will be in town for the exhibition of
Miniature Designer Bookbindings from the collection of Neale Albert,
and for the Guild of Book Workers Centenary Exhibition, both at the
Grolier Club. Participants include Tim Ely, Don Glaister, Deborah
Evetts, George Kirkpatrick, David Sellars, Earl "Duke" Collier, and
Neale Albert. At the Club. The first session runs 10 am -10:45 am,
followed by a coffee break from 10:45 am - 11:15 am; the final
session runs from 11:15 am to 12:30 pm.
* September 16: Collegiate Book Collecting Championship Awards
Ceremony. Honoring the winner of this inaugural Fine Books &
Collections magazine competition among champions of the various
collegiate book collecting contests. Opening remarks by Nicholas
Basbanes. 6 pm at the Club. Reception follows.
* September 20: Lecture -- Barbara Kretzmann, proprietor of the
Cutleaf Bindery, and 2005 Grolier Club Library Fellow, on the work of
binding historian Lansing Moran, whose extensive papers and notes on
twentieth century bookbinders are held by the Grolier Club. 2 pm at the Club.
* September 28: Inaugural Bernard H. Breslauer Lecture -- Roger
Stoddard on "Bernard H. Breslauer in Retrospect." 6:00 p.m. at the
Club. Reception follows. Co-sponsored by The American Trust for the
British Library and The Grolier Club. RSVP by September 15 to: Mary

* October 10: Panel Discussion on "The Future of Fine Press
Books." Join Grolier Club members and others in discussing such
questions as, What is a fine press book today? What is the technology
of fine printing? What to print? and Who is collecting, and how?
Speakers include Mark Dimunation, John Randle, Jerry Kelly, and
Robert Fleck. Moderator: Paul Romaine. 5-7:30 pm at the Club;
reception follows. Sponsored by the Grolier Club Committee on Modern
Fine Printing.
