I use a squeegee--either a plastic clay tool or one cut from 4-ply  
matboard.  If you cut one from matboard, make sure the edge is very  
straight and switch to a new one as soon as the edge becomes soft.  I  
put several sheets of wax paper under the paper or board I'm  
glueing.  That way, as soon as the glue goes off the edge, you can  
just pull that layer of wax paper out and toss it--you'll have a new  
clean surface underneath without having to reposition your paper or  
board.
