Sidney Tibbetts offers Austin Book Workers,
"A meander through Abbot Ellinger's manuscript miscellany"

During her presentation, Sidney Tibbetts will meander through an 
eleventh-century monastic manuscript in The Harry Ransom Center 
collection that has an assortment of astrological, classical, 
encyclopedic, and other texts in a late medieval binding structure. 
In this talk, Sidney will demonstrate how the various physical 
features in this manuscript help us determine its origin, history and 
how it may have been used over several centuries.
Sidney earned a PhD in Medieval History from the University of 
Cambridge in 2002, and she will soon complete a Master's degree in 
Information Science and Preservation Administration at UT-Austin. 
While wearing her palaeographer's hat, she has also cataloged both 
Latin and vernacular manuscripts dating from the years 600 - 1600 at 
Princeton University, the Ransom Center, and private collections, and 
she has researched manuscripts in a number of European repositories.

This program will interest calligraphers, book binders, book 
historians and folks who want to know about the  everyday life of 
European monks in the 11th century !

January Meeting .................   HELP !

The Dec. 13 meeting will be our last at the Episcopal Theological Seminary.

So - Austin Book Workers is looking for a free or very low cost place 
to hold meetings.
If possible we would like to continue to meet the second Thursday of 
every month, and stay at the meeting place until 9pm.
We would like to be allowed to eat snacks there. A sink would be lovely.
Public transit access, a bathroom, and parking are important.
If any of you list members have suggestions for a new meeting place, 
please contact
