Hi Keith,
There was just a discussion of edge treatment on the letterpress 
listserve and the old timers chipped in to say that it was done on the 
stack of pages clamped as for padding ad brushing ink onto the edges.
I have tried the foil method and it doesn't work. You can't get the edge 
even enough.
