STRIKE-ON TYPE & OFF-SET PRINTING IN THE 1970s: The IBM Selectric
Composer as Desktop Publishing.
Drawing on the nearly-vanished tools of the light-table & t-squares,
razor blades & wax, John McBride of the Red Hill Press shows how the
IBM Selectric type setting machine put composition into the hands of
small & independent publishers; how strike-on type yielded to
photo-type and then to the digital.
No slides, just examples & samples
Hospitality at 5 p.m. in the Club rooms, presentation at 6 pm. in the
SPUR room.
