[BKARTS] binding perfectly
Hi Scott,
A great method to strengthen your paperbacks is to Lumbeck them.
After fanning the pages in both directions and applying glue, the text block is allowed to dry. Then, saw cuts, with a fine coping saw, are made at an angle and in a zig zag pattern, of about 1/8 of an inch into the block. String/cord is inserted into these grooves and glued and the block is again allowed to dry.
Case bind or bind as desired after this.
A good book is Unsewn Binding, by G.S. Percival and R. A Graham, Dryad Press, 1964, but several other publications may have instructions on this quite good method.
