Dear Book Artists,

    Bright Hill Literary Center, Treadwell, NY (in the Catskills), is 
offering a unique workshop by Dan Welden, the internationally-known 
printmaker who has pioneered the innovative technique of solar printing. 
Welden will teach this solar printmaking workshop from Sunday, August 17 
through Thursday, August 21, 9 am - 4 pm, with a one-hour break for lunch, 
at Bright Hill Literary Center. 
     Workshop fees are $500 for five days plus $50 materials (which include 
2 plates, 2 full sheets of 300-lb. German etching paper, and use of inks and 
other materials provided by Welden) or $300 for three days plus $50 
materials. Enrollment is limited to 10 students, and pre-registration is 
required. No prior experience in printmaking is required.    
      Dan Welden, teacher, painter, author, and master printmaker, is the 
originator of solarplate printmaking in the US. he is the co-author, with 
Pauline Muir, of "Printmaking in the Sun," published by Watson-Guptill in 
2001, the comprehensive manual of solarplate methods. 
     As a teacher, Dan continues to inspire students around the world in 
workshops where he demonstrates how to make solarplates and print both 
intaglio and relief plates. His month-long summer workshops at the Santa 
Reparata International School of Art in Florence, Italy, are attended by 
students form Europe, Australia, and Ameria. He has taught printmaking at 
Stony Brook, Suffolk Community College, Long Island University, and Central 
Connecticut State. His demonstrations at the NY State Art Teacher's 
Assocation Conferences, Southern Graphics Council, and Mid-America Print 
Council Conferences inspire teachers, students, and artists to make prints 
using the safer and greener methods of solarplate etching without the use of 
acids or other dangerous chemicals. 
     Dan is past president of the Society of American Graphic Artists, and 
has shown his work in more than 60 one-person exhibits an dmore than 350 
group exhibitison in the US, Europe, China, Australia, New Zealand, and 
Peru. As master printmake/owner at Hampton Editions, Ltd. in Sag Harbor, LI, 
he has collaborated with artists Robert Dash, Willen and Elaine de Kooning, 
Jimmy Ernst, James Brooks, Dan Flavin, Esteban Vicente, William King, Ibram 
Lassaw, Kurt Vonnegut, Alfonso Ossorio, Jane Freilicher, David Salle, Eric 
Fischl, Louise Chase, Linda Benglis, and many others.
