Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky (translated by Sandra Smith) - This novel contains two of her planned books telling the story of the German occupation of France. The two appendices contain the notes and letters related to the book and her life as a Jew in occupied France. A great book with lots of information about the writing of the book.
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See - This novel is not exactly about books but, as it tells the tale of women in rural China in what appears to be the 18th century, you learn about women's writing (unreadable by men) and the multitude of ways they utilized it.

Subject: [BKARTS] BOOKS ABOUT BOOKS-Fiction
Hi,
Several years ago there was a posting of fiction reads--
books about books' which I thought I'd saved. It included some
wonderful 'reads.'
Here are some from my list:
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
The Book of Air and Shadows by Michael Gruber
84, Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff
The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
The History of Love by Nicole Krauss
The Bookseller of Kabul by Asne Seierstad
Reading Lolita In Tehran by Azar Nafisi
Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstressl by Dai Sijie
Would appreciate new recommendations.
Cheers,
Alice
