This response shows my age.

From what I recall from the 60's, Eaton was a major producer of 
it.  I don't know if Eaton's is still in existence.

The things others have said on this list about using it for typing 
multiple copies with carbon and also light weight paper for mail 
correspondence are all valid and true.
