Field school on rock art

The University of Arizona and the Kaibab National Forest are cosponsoring a
field school on the "Protection, Conservation and Recording of Rock Art".
This course will be held from 5th June - 6th July 1995 at a large petroglyph
site located within the Kaibab National Forest, near Williams, Arizona.
Instructors will be Dr. Lawrence Loendorf, Dept. of Anthropology, University
of Arizona, and J. Claire Dean, Dean & Associates Conservation Services.

The field school will cover the following topics:

    *   Techniques for recording rock art (scale drawings, photography,
        tracing)

    *   Rock art descriptive control (typology, styles)

    *   Rock art dating (seriation, cation-ratio, chronometric analyses
        of pigments)

    *   Protection and management of rock art sites (site protection
        techniques, management programs)

    *   Rock art conservation (general site conservation, vandalism
        removal/reduction)

Students will be living in the field and must provide all personal
camping equipment and each participant is required to pay a $250 fee for
food and camping fees.  In addition, participants will be required to
pay the necessary enrollment /registration fee to the University of
Arizona as this is a credited course.

The course offers three credits and is open to junior and senior
undergraduates or graduate students in conservation, anthropology, art
and related majors. Applicants should submit a letter of application,
their resume and the names and addresses of 2 references.
