ICI Conservation acquires Brittle Book Replacement Service

Information Conservation, Inc. (ICI) has acquired the Brittle Book
Replacement Service (BBRS) from Archival Products, a division of
Library Binding Service. The BBRS photocopies and binds library
books which have become unusable due to brittleness caused by age
and acidic paper.

ICI's goal is to expand the BBRS over the next twelve months from
its current black and white and color photocopying techniques to
scanning, digitizing, and storing information that can be printed
and bound on demand. While complying fully with copyright laws, ICI
plans to build a computerized, full-text library of titles, ranging
from out-of-copyright literary works to sets of law and history
books that can be printed and bound as needed without
re-photocopying or storing paper copies.

ICI owns and operates eight library binderies which serve more than
4,000 institutions across the country, the Conservation Division
which offers top-quality preservation and restoration services, and
a division called Trion Technologies which specializes in scanning
and digitizing. We see the acquisition of BBRS by ICI as an
excellent way of combining our corporate-wide interest in preserving
information for future generations with our expertise in binding,
conservation, and electronic technology.

The Brittle Book Binding Service will be part of ICI's Conservation
Division, located in Brown Summit, North Carolina. For more
information about the BBRS, contact Harry Campbell, ICI
Conservation's Chief Conservator, at 1-910-375-1202 or at
