Workshop on disaster planning

From: Carol Dellios <cdellios>
Date: Monday, August 14, 1995
Is your institution prepared for a hurricane? Do you know what to
do if disaster strikes? The North Carolina Maritime Museum will be
hosting two SOLINET (Southeastern Library Network) preservation
workshops in September that can prepare you to deal with these
emergency situations.

Plan to attend

    Hurricane Disaster Planning

on Thursday, September 14th. Learn what to do before the storm to
increase chances of survival and minimize damage, and what to do
after the storm to speed up recovery and minimize losses. Topics to
be discussed include the nature of hurricanes, general issues in
developing your disaster plan, and making your facility more
storm-proof. Conducted by Debi Hacker, Conservation Administrator,
Chicora Foundation. The session runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On Friday, September 15th, learn how to plan, organize and execute a
disaster plan and salvage operation in our Disaster Recovery
workshop. You'll hear an in-depth discussion of disaster
preparedness and see demonstrations of various salvage techniques
for items such as books, manuscripts, and photos. The workshop will
cover a broad range of disasters, from minor emergencies (mold
outbreaks, leaky pipes) to full-blown disasters such as fires,
floods and hurricanes. The session runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and
will be conducted by Julie Arnott, Preservation Education Officer,
SOLINET.

The cost of each workshop is $85 for SOLINET members and any
institution in North Carolina; $90 FEDLINK; $125 non-members.
Discounts are offered for individuals signing up for both
workshops, and there is a $10 discount for early registration.

Contact Steve Eberhardt of SOLINET at 1-800-999-8558 ext 285 for
further information or to register.
