Conservator of Photographic Materials and Paper

The Rocky Mountain Conservation Center (RMCC), Denver, Colorado,
seeks a professional Conservator of Photographic Materials and
Paper.  This is a full-time permanent position, available
immediately.

As head of the Photo Materials/Paper lab, the successful candidate
will be responsible for the department's organization, operation,
and project management.  The position is responsible for condition
examination, treatment proposals and estimates, written
documentation, conservation treatments, collection surveys, and
needs assessments.  The candidate should be comfortable with
departmental project and budget management, collaboration with
colleagues, and supervision of technicians and students.

The conservator will be working in an environment of consensus
management within a multi-discipline laboratory.  He/she will
provide general support to RMCC's overall operation, participate as
a principal member of a team, and take part in planning RMCC's
growth and evolution. Willingness to market your skills and develop
and maintain client relationships are essential in this position.
The conservator should expect some travel for RMCC serves clients
throughout the Rocky Mountain/Great Plains states.  There will be
opportunities to teach a conservation theory course in the Museum
Studies program of the University of Denver, to conduct occasional
lectures and workshops.

The ideal candidate will be a graduate of an accredited conservation
training program with a specialization in photographic materials (or
paper).  The conservator should have solid experience in bidding and
estimating project costs and sensitivity to budgeting.  The
candidate should be will spoken, diplomatic, have good writing
skills, and knowledge of pc-based software.  The conservator must be
well-organized and a self-starter, able to communicate effectively
with colleagues, clients, vendors, and lab visitors.
